Lunge ankle test: shin angle as the knee drives forward
With the front heel flat, your client drives the knee forward. MovePath measures how far the shin tilts from vertical, recording how much the ankle bends, one leg at a time.

What it measures
The angle of the front shin from vertical. Once the heel lifts, the shin no longer shows how far the ankle bends, so moments with the heel off the floor are left out.
Seen next to squat depth, it lets you look at the ankle on its own. Left and right are measured separately, so you also get the difference.
Where to put the phone
- Side view, lens at hip heightPhone upright on a tripod, 2–3 m away. Before each test the app checks camera height and phone tilt, and tells you what to fix if they're off.
- Measured leg in front, towards the cameraA wall or chair in front to hold is fine. For the other side, turn round and repeat.
- Hold for a secondFront heel on the floor, drive the knee forward and hold at the end for a second. Three times.
What the report shows
- Shin angleThe result and the spread between reps, with heel-off moments left out.
- Left–right differenceMeasure both legs and a bar shows the difference.
- Change since last timeOn a re-test, the first sentence states the change since last time, and a trend chart shows the same test over time.
- PhotosThe furthest-forward knee position of each rep, face blurred. Taken only with the client's photo consent and kept only on the trainer's phone and in the PDF. Report links carry no photos.
- Test video ProRecord the test, replay it with joint angles, and play it side by side with the first one. Videos stay on the trainer's phone.
Reference data
There is no age- and sex-based reference table for this test in the report yet. Instead, the report shows the change since the same client's previous test. We only add tables whose numbers we have checked against the original paper.
Please note
MovePath is not a medical device. This test records measurements to guide exercise; it is not a diagnosis. App readings may differ from a goniometer, tape measure or stopwatch. Use them to compare the same client's first test with today's, measured the same way.
