Straight leg raise (SLR): the angle of the raised straight leg

Your client lies on a mat and lifts one leg with the knee straight. MovePath measures the angle between the raised leg and the leg on the mat, left and right separately, so you can see the difference.

What it measures

The angle between the raised leg (the hip-to-ankle line) and the leg on the mat. If the lower leg isn't visible, the horizontal of the frame is used instead.

How high a straight leg lifts shows how far the back of the thigh lengthens. No one has to hold the leg and a goniometer: three lifts per leg, and the middle value is used.

Left and right are measured separately, so a side that lifts less shows up straight away.

Where to put the phone

  • Lens low, near the matPhone upright on a tripod, around 3 m away so the whole body is in frame.
  • Measured leg towards the cameraLie flat with the other leg straight on the mat. For the other side, turn round and lie the other way.
  • Hold at the top for a secondLift slowly with the knee straight, hold for a second, lower. Three times.

What the report shows

  • Leg angleThe result and the spread between reps.
  • Left–right differenceMeasure both legs and a bar shows the difference.
  • Change since last timeOn a re-test, the first sentence states the change since last time, and a trend chart shows the same test over time.
  • PhotosThe highest point of each rep, face blurred. Taken only with the client's photo consent and kept only on the trainer's phone and in the PDF. Report links carry no photos.
  • Test video ProRecord the test, replay it with joint angles, and play it side by side with the first one. Videos stay on the trainer's phone.

Reference data

There is no age- and sex-based reference table for this test in the report yet. Instead, the report shows the change since the same client's previous test. We only add tables whose numbers we have checked against the original paper.

Please note

MovePath is not a medical device. This test records measurements to guide exercise; it is not a diagnosis. App readings may differ from a goniometer, tape measure or stopwatch. Use them to compare the same client's first test with today's, measured the same way.
